Finally summer!
But what for some means a comfortable temperature, lots of activity and a good mood, unfortunately brings with it circulatory problems, fatigue and other physical effects for others.
Because summer brings with it a lot of direct sun, high humidity and record temperatures, it also poses a certain risk to your health.
In hot weather, it is particularly difficult for the body to maintain a constant body temperature of 37°C. There are also other dangers from the sun. UV radiation is stronger, our exposure time is longer and the atmosphere is less protective. All of this can have health consequences: not only for the brain and the circulatory system, but also for the skin and the female* cycle.
The danger is greatest at midday, in mountainous regions and near water.
Unprotected exposure to the sun and heat can lead to dehydration, spots and premature skin aging. Skin cells die or are damaged with every sunburn. If too many cells continue to function but are defective, skin cancer can develop in the long term. Recurrent sunburn should be avoided at all costs.
- Schedule outdoor activities in the morning or evening
- Use sunscreen with at least SPF 30, e.g. i+m Sun Protect sun lotion as a mineral sunscreen with a waterproof UV filter
- Drink plenty of water and eat light foods with a high water content, e.g. soups or salads
- Cover your head and avoid dark clothing
- Cool living space, keep windows closed during the day
Menstruation is often perceived as more strenuous in hot weather. The body generally sweats, the abdomen hurts and circulation is poor. If the bleeding is heavy, extreme fatigue and migraines can occur.
In fact, the time between the start of the cycle and ovulation can also be longer or shorter. Many people sleep worse in hot weather, are less physically active and/or find hot temperatures physically strenuous. All of this can have an impact on hormone levels, which in turn controls the cycle phases.
Determining fertile days based on body temperature is also more difficult.
Did you know that some period products, such as some sanitary pads, can be uncomfortable in hot weather because they restrict air circulation? So that we can make your period underwear as comfortable as possible even in summer, ooia period underwear is made of breathable fabrics and has a three-layer Magic Membrane System in the crotch that effectively absorbs and wicks away moisture. This reduces skin irritation, heat build-up and friction and ensures that you can feel as dry and comfortable as possible even in hot weather and during your period.
Our tip: Our seamless panties and thongs without seams feel super soft on the skin and disappear almost invisibly under your favorite summer clothes. This means that no seams are visible even under thin fabrics - we promise!
